Why didn’t my submission get chosen?
You are probably reading this page because you submitted one or more images to YourDailyPhotograph.com and they haven’t been selected.
Thank you for your submitting to YourDailyPhotograph.com. We rely on good photographs to keep our collectors happy. We’re here to sell photographs, promote artists and their work and make our contributors some money.
That said, many photos are submitted that we won’t or can’t accept. While we have no capacity at present to review or dialog about each submission (remember everything we do is free for you), the list below contains nearly every reason why an image wasn’t accepted by us. It’s likely one or more of the following factors prevented yours from being accepted. If you feel you can fix, please delete and resubmit.
When you are submitting your image to our system,
here are common mistakes to avoid:
Having any random character in an image file name you want to upload (%#*&, etc)
Forgetting to enter a code if you are submitting for a certain project or guest curator
Why do some Artist-Photographers appear more often than others?
The simple reason is they submit works our collectors want. In addition, we keep track of artists who promote their photographs when they are featured on the Daily. Artists who promote get better consideration from our team. Be sure to use Instagram @yourdailyphotograph and Facebook and tag YourDailyPhotograph.com when you can. It would surprise you how many of your friends and relatives might buy from the Daily to support you—people you might normally give a print. Help us help you while we grow and promote our free subscriptions.
Pricing
Your photograph was priced outside the range of what we find successful for lesser known artists— below $300 retail or above $1000 retail. If you submitted a large size, consider submitting a smaller size of that image for a lower price if possible. But whatever you do, keep your pricing consistent. Collectors can get confused easily regarding price, and confused collectors rarely buy.
Your work in the market
If we find your works anywhere in the global marketplace priced less than our offerings, that will usually cause us to reject your submissions. Please remember, in using our platform you agreed not to provide the specific work for a lower price anywhere else for a period of time. Additionally if we discover other of your works being offered for a lower price on various websites, that can trigger a rejection or ban from us. Consistent pricing is important.
Over-submitting
Our Calls for Submissions clearly state to submit three photos maximum. Submit more, and none will likely be accepted.
Artist name
While different artists choose to use trade names (Banksy, Mr. Brainwash, KAWS, etc), we find masking identities hurts sales from lesser known artists, so we have a policy of not allowing trade names.
Collector contact
Occasionally some collectors will reach out to artists directly after discovering your work in the Daily. We spend a lot of time, resource and money to develop the Daily and to promote your work. Please send these collectors back to us for sales, and let us know when this happens. If we find artists participating in sales we generate outside of the Daily, you will be banned from presenting work on our platform.
Artistic and curatorial issues
Image format
We don’t accept images with watermarks, white borders, keylines or frames. If you submitted an image this way, you can correct and resubmit.
Can I print on canvas or metal?
We typically will not accept submissions printed on decorative substrates. Our collectors look for archival printing on quality paper.
What is it?
If most collectors can’t understand or relate to a photograph fairly quickly while viewing from their small iPhone screen, they are much less likely to buy. Blurry or inconclusive images typically are difficult to sell for our platform, and are often rejected.
Artistic merit
This is a subjective choice made by one or more of our curators. If none of the issues above apply, our curators simply didn’t feel an artistic connection to this particular work. They might love other pieces you have made.
Don’t be discouraged!
You just read a long list of what we don’t want. We are always looking for quality photographs to present to our hungry collector base. Please consider the above when you submit and submit carefully. We want you to be successful!!
Pro tip
In addition to the Calls for Submissions we send, we are always looking for your good works that don’t fit a Call. Just really good photographic art that might appeal to our collectors. When submitting, use the code “none” to put your work in our Contemporary/Emerging cue. Placing two or three a month is a smart way to keep in front of our curators.
Who does curate the Daily emails?
There are several talented curators (some you may know) working behind the scenes who pick works they like for us. We keep them anonymous so they can be fair and objective.
